Lauren Sanderson was one of the smallest gigs I'd ever seen. It was intimate, fun, and fascinating to see such a young girl work to get where she wants to be without question. Although it was a smaller crowd and venue, I had the most fun there.
In the basement of a coffee shop somewhere in Chicago, a line of about 30 girls forms. Small, but surely a mighty crowd. That seemed to be the theme of this performance. Her mix of rap, hip-hop, and pop stirs us up immediately.
I felt a special connection to her, she was from my neck of the woods. A girl from a small city that was unknown. A girl who had huge aspirations, and was going to achieve them. That seems to be Lauren's theme for everything. She is always striving for the next big thing. She doesn't stop working.
Her first few songs were the poppy, fun, i'm-young-and-free songs. Only knowing her for almost a week before buying the tickets day of, I was mostly mumbling. I was three feet away from a love at first listen, it was magical. Songs like Palm Springs and Dear Universe had me hooked. She had everyone in the room wrapped around her finger. Her stage presence was legendary. She truly belongs there, on stage, singing the words she wrote in her car.
More and more songs filled with positive lyrics and beats played, and I was in love. Lauren has this vibe that radiates love, youth, and fun. She's bubbly and young, and she has no problem showing that in her music. Her energy radiated into the crowd. All I could see was smiles coming from every single person. Song after song, Lauren sang at the top of her lungs.
Lauren also took time to talk about the importance of accepting yourself. This was important to her, and the audience. She got so into talking about how accepting yourself is important, and that's all that should matter. "Who cares? It's not their lives, they don't get to decide." Considering the fact that she was talking to 25-30 young girls, she really understood how important that factor is in a teenage mindset. Lauren's always been focused on herself and her dream. She inspires people everyday by pushing herself to be her best & always following her passion, music & performing.
After the concert, she set up a meet and greet for everybody for free. I got to meet her, and she is even more fun in person than on stage. She is loving, kind, and an overall great person. She made every person she met feel like they were special. She wasn't some big star that doesn't care. She is a normal kid following her dreams. Lauren Sanderson will be playing at arenas soon, mark my words.
